The Conventional "Mushroom" Type of Poppet
- Heads have a significant overhang to the stem causing a flange. The intersection of this flange and the stem is the weakest cross-sectional area in the poppet. This area is subject to high shear loads due to gas differential pressures and/or poppet-to-seat impacts,
- Poppet alignment concentricity is limited due to clearance needed between poppet stem and guide hole to control venting, resulting in valve-to-seat misalignments,
- Valve springs squirm and come in contact with metal pocket faces, causing premature spring wear.

- Reinforced head-to-stem cross-section for greater differential pressure and higher speed applications,
- Stronger poppet also eliminates the "Domino" effect of poppet failure when one poppet is damaged,
- Internal guide posts with tighter running clearances eliminate leakage due to misalignments,
- Flats machined 180º apart on the length of the post control venting,
- Spring guidance system improves spring life and prevents bowing and metal-to-metal contact,
- Counterbore in poppet head, and thermoplastic spring guide, anchors the spring and assures its alignment,
- Valve spring shielded from gas flow,
- Poppet head and seat profile designed to streamline gas flow past the open valve.
